Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep or record those search terms on our own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, we retain the message as needed to answer it. We keep that correspondence within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive standard technical information when a page loads, including:
- Page-view dates and times
- Your device's assigned IP address
- The referring site, when one is reported
- Browser type and version
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device category and operating system
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic in aggregate, such as which pages visitors use and where visits end. You may block cookies through browser controls, although doing so can change how some site features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Operating the site and maintaining its performance
- Routing a search request to the selected partner service
- Measuring which pages are useful and which need improvement
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not host, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The content explains how to request Webster County records from the Webster County Sheriff, Circuit or Magistrate Court, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, WVDCR, and the West Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not combined into consumer reports or third-party criminal-history files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information entered there is handled under that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider decides how long it retains information and when it shares data, and we do not control those choices. Read the applicable policy before running a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Webster County Sheriff, West Virginia courts, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you follow an external link, that destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may track activity across more than one website to select ads. That processing occurs through their systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and site performance
- Search providers that process a query you submit
- Government or law-enforcement bodies when disclosure is compelled by a valid legal order
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the site
How We Protect Your Data
We use customary safeguards for the information we collect. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed completely secure, however, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy and consumer-protection law may provide further rights based on where you live. West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq., governs access to records of public bodies, including reasonably specific requests under §29B-1-3; it does not govern this privately operated site's visitor data. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Object to certain forms of data processing
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Ask for access to personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
